We are a

community

Bike Poughkeepsie is a volunteer, nonprofit advocacy organization dedicated to creating a safer, more accessible transportation future for everyone in Poughkeepsie. We work to improve conditions for bicyclists while also enhancing safety and accessibility for pedestrians and drivers throughout the city and surrounding areas.

Our community collaborates with residents, local government commissions, and partner organizations to promote the adoption and implementation of Complete Streets policies. Through regular meetings we bring people together to advance practical solutions that make our streets safer and more connected for all.

OUR STORY

Rob Cerrato is a Poughkeepsie local who moved here with his family with the goal of living car free. He relies on his bicycle as his primary mode of transportation year-round, riding in all kinds of weather. However, after a driver struck him during his commute to work, he was forced to reassess his approach to cycling while he recovered. That experience propelled him to found Bike Poughkeepsie to help make streets safer for his daughter and the wider community. By advocating for safer streets and better infrastructure, he hopes we can all imagine and build a safer Poughkeepsie that works better for all of its residents. He’s a designer, illustrator, animator, and outspoken cycling safety advocate. If you spot him out on his cargo bike loaded with groceries, be sure to say hello.
